How to send custom variables using Zapier/Make for Dynamic Prompting

Use Zapier to pass dynamic call data into custom fields and trigger AI follow-up calls with personalized scripts.

Overview

If you'd like to initiate a secondary AI follow-up call that references information gathered during a previous call, you can do this using automation tools like Zapier or Make.com, and custom fields in Awaz.ai.

This guide walks you through how to:

✔ Create custom fields to store dynamic call data
✔ Automatically push that data into your contact list
✔ Trigger a personalized follow-up call with the updated context

We’ll be using Zapier for this example — but similar workflows can also be created with Make.com or the Awaz API.


Step 1 – Create a Custom Field in Awaz

To store and reuse call-specific data (like a conversation summary or key insights), start by creating a custom field:

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Fields in your Awaz dashboard

  2. Create a new field such as Call_Summary

  3. This custom field will now be visible in your Contacts and can be updated dynamically via Zapier

💡 Tip: Name your custom fields clearly (e.g., Call_Summary, Product_Interest) so they’re easy to map later.

Step 2 – Use Zapier to Pull Call Data

  1. In Zapier, create a new Zap.

  2. For the trigger app, select Awaz.ai.

  3. Choose New Call as the trigger event.

  4. Connect your Awaz account and select the AI Agent making the first call.

  5. Filter by call status = Outcome so it only pulls calls where a full conversation happened.

  6. Test the trigger — you’ll pull data like contact name, phone, and call summary (from Analysis tab).


Step 3 – Update the Contact With Dynamic Data

  1. Add a new Zapier Action: Awaz.ai > Add or Update Contact.

  2. In the action setup:

    • Map the Contact Name and Phone Number fields.

    • Under your previously created Call_Summary custom field, map the value from the original call’s Analysis Summary or any other custom variable gathered.

This ensures your contact now has updated, contextual info for the follow-up call.

💡 Tip: Make sure to input the title of your created custom field exactly into this field.


Step 4 – Trigger the Follow-Up Call

  1. Add another Action Step: Awaz.ai > Make a Call.

  2. Select the specific AI Agent that is configured for the follow-up calls.

  3. This follow-up agent should be prompted to refer to the custom field:

    • For example:
      “Hi {{Contact.FirstName}}, I saw you mentioned that {{Contact.Call_Summary}}. Would now be a good time to discuss this further?”

Optional Step – Add a Time Delay

Want to delay the follow-up call by a few hours or days?

  1. Add the Delay by Zapier step before the “Make a Call” action.

  2. Configure a fixed time delay (e.g., 24 hours after the initial call).


That’s It!

Your Zap will now:

✅ Detect completed calls
✅ Store dynamic context into your contact database
✅ Trigger a follow-up AI call that’s personalized and informed
