How to Connect Your Phone Number via SIP Trunking (Step-by-Step)

Awaz.ai supports SIP trunking to let you use your own VoIP provider’s number for outbound calls through the platform. Inbound not supported.

Why Integrate via SIP Trunking?

Awaz.ai’s SIP Trunking integration allows you to connect your existing VoIP provider’s phone number directly to our platform. This guide will help you:

✔ Use your own VoIP provider’s number for outbound calls
✔ Configure your SIP credentials (username, password, host, port) in Awaz.ai
✔ Test and verify that calls route through Awaz.ai using your SIP trunk
✔ Troubleshoot common SIP connection issues

Step 1: Gather Your SIP Credentials

  1. From your VoIP provider, obtain:

    • Username (SIP User): the account or extension name.

    • Password: the SIP account password (ensure it contains no special characters, since Twilio blocks those).

    • Host (Domain): the SIP server domain or IP address.

    • Port: default SIP trunk port is usually 5060 by default (confirm with your provider if needed).

    • Phone Number: the DID you want to register.

  2. If you haven’t already, confirm with your provider that:

    • Outbound traffic to Awaz.ai’s SIP IP ranges is allowed.

    • Your chosen password uses only alphanumeric characters (no special symbols like @, !, or #).

Step 2: Enter SIP Details into Awaz

  1. Visit https://app.awaz.ai and sign in with your admin credentials.

  2. In the left sidebar, click Settings.

  3. In Settings > Integrations.

  4. In Phone > Click Buy Phone (even though you’re not purchasing; this is where you manage external numbers).

  5. Choose the SIP and enter SIP Trunk Details

    • Phone Number: Enter your existing DID

    • Host (Domain): Enter your provider’s SIP server domain (e.g., sip.brazilprovider.com).

    • Port: Typically 5060. If your provider uses a different port, enter that instead.

    • Username: Paste the SIP User you retrieved from your provider.

    • Password: Paste the SIP password (must be alphanumeric only).

  6. Click Save to register this SIP trunk.

💡 Tip: If you receive an error, double-check that there are no special characters—Twilio (which handles our SIP redirection) blocks them.

Step 3: Verify Connection and Trigger Calls

To test outbound calls:

  • Create a test campaign or agent with that SIP trunk as the outbound channel.

  • Place a call to any valid number—Awaz.ai should route through your VoIP provider seamlessly.

  • You may also use the test call function within the Agent's settings.

⚠️ Note: Inbound calling is not supported through your own connected numbers.
If you want to receive inbound calls using your own phone number, you’ll need to forward those calls into a Twilio number or a number purchased directly from our platform. Only these numbers can be tied to inbound call flows inside the system.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Issue: Connection Fails Immediately After Saving

  • Cause: Incorrect credentials (username/password) or host.

  • Solution:

    1. Re-copy your SIP User and Password—ensure no trailing spaces.

    2. Confirm the Host domain exactly matches your SIP provider’s server.

    3. Verify the port (default 5060) is correct.

Issue: Authentication Errors

  • Cause: Password contains special characters or SIP provider blocking Twilio’s IP.

  • Solution:

    1. Change your SIP password to use only letters (A–Z, a–z) and numbers (0–9).
